Oh folks.  I wish allergies would just die.  Instead of try to kill me.  So this outfit is from early this week (I think Monday or even Tuesday), from before I went to the doctor because I thought I was actually sick with something.  I had some natural inspiration for this outfit- the beautiful (but foul smelling, pollen emitting) trees at my bus stop reminded me of my awesome scarf.

This tree really does kind of stink.  But look!  Pretty!

Awesome lacy flower scarf: H&M

Shirt: Old Navy
Skirt: Thrifted
Functional: All covered, could sprint if I wanted.  Leg extension is no problem here.  (They aren't pictured, but I was also wearing my amazing Tsubo black leather flats that feel like gym shoes)
Comfortable: Mostly, but this skirt has a major static problem.
Liked it: I love this scarf, and the color of my skirt.  Perhaps not super imaginative, but I was happy.

There is potential for road trips this weekend so I may or may not end up posting something.  That or I might DIE of my stupid allergies.

A Reason to Smile: Bold, Bright Color!

I absolutely adore bold, bright citrusy colors.

L'Oreal nail polish in "tweet me."  I almost didn't buy it because of the name (I'm easily annoyed).  But I'm happy I did, it is awesome!  No topcoat, and it held up through several days, and then two 40 minute derby bouts with one small chip.   Also, clementines are amazing.

These daffodils come up every year without ANY assistance from me.  And they make me happy!

Gorgeous Colorado sunset!

shopping and wings

I'm such an impulse shopper sometimes.  I've basically stuck to my clothes shopping ban- I did buy a roller dolls shirt and some tights, but it was something we were supposed to wear to the St. Patrick's Day parade technically, so I think I'll let it slide.  Instead of clothes though, I just bought a copy of the first Huger Games book (I thought the movie was excellent, now I'm really stoked to devour the book) and a tripod for my digital camera.  I went in to pick up some prints, and ended up spending $40.  Ugh.  Shopping can be a hard habit to let go of.  And I keep tempting myself.  Oh well.  I feel like books are a better expense than clothes anyway.

Blouse: Anne Taylor Loft
Skirt: Thrifted Old Navy
Boots: Timberland
Birdcage Necklace: Target

I'm still not entirely sure I'm on board with the batwing look.  It sure is comfy though!

Functional:  I have to take slightly less long strides when I walk in this skirt.
Comfortable: Perfect for the weather, no heels, and a nice slouchy shirt.  Yes!
Liked it:  Not sure about the wings, but generally I was happy with this look.  It is perhaps a bit boring, but it sure works for a Monday at work!  And I love the pattern on this skirt.  LOVE.

It has been such a busy week!  Since I'm already about ready to head off to sleepyland, I present pictures from the Saint Patrick's Day parade last weekend.  I TOLD you the sequin skirt is badass :)

Hopefully I'll have pictures soon, I got to play in a charity tournament this weekend, and I'll just say that it was awesome aaand I did really well when they let me jam (IGOTAGRANDSLAMYEAAAAHHH).  And my team won the whole thing!  Woohoo!

hello new year!

Happy spring everyone!  So no matter what the rest of the world says, I firmly believe that March 21st is the first day of spring.  Every year.  Because it is my birthday.

I am 27 today!  Woohoo!  To celebrate, I pulled out some of my fancier things that I don't get to wear much and wore them to my half day of work.  Tonight, Husby and I are going out for fancy dinner!  I'm super excited.

Silk Shirt: thrifted, old navy
Silk Skirt: Laundry by Shelli Segal

I had myself some fun while taking pictures today :)
Shoes: Ross

Excuse the blurry pictures...I get excited...

Amber necklace: Christmas gift from my parentals

I love the roses all over this skirt!

Functional:  As functional as a silk shirt and skirt combo can be! 4.5
Comfortable: Very!  4.8
Liked it:  Loved it!  4.8

Average score: 4.7

I find myself talking about sparkly things again

Good evening!  This will have to be a quick post, I have to leave for derby practice in an hour!  And I still haven't done important things like, well, eating.  And changing out of my dress.  Eventually I will post pictures from the weekend- I got to skate in the Saint Patrick's Day Parade here in Denver, and I got to wear my sequin skirt, and... I get pretty excited when I get to wear the sequin skirt.  It basically means that it is automatically a good day.  Woohoo!

Earrings: I won them at my cousin's jewelry party!
Necklace: target clearance!
Cardigan: Target
Dress: New York and Company
Shoes: Tsubo

It felt...really odd taking pictures of my chest.  But this is the best part of my outfit!  I love the wrappy part of the dress.

This was like, $2 when I got to it at Target.  Everyone else's loss!  Bejeweled strawberry?   Yes please!

Functional: Yup.  Probably couldn't sprint, but office work was just fine. 4.5
Comfortable:  This would have been perfect in a warmer day, but I have this issue with not wearing socks at the most inappropriate times.  So my feet were cold.  The rest of me felt great though!  4
Liked it:  Not super exciting, but a solid Monday work option.  I did like the color combo.  AND I did get to wear the glitter strawberry. 4.3

MMMM

Happy Thursday, everyone!

Today, my derby wife and I had lunch at this wonderful restaurant called Crepes & Crepes and it totally made my day.  My crepe was stuffed with white wine cream sauce, chicken, and mushrooms, and I am salivating just thinking about it.  And we shared a strawberry crepe with this almond tasting whipped cream...dear lord.  For almost 4 years I worked almost literally right across the street from this place, and I never went.  I could kick myself.  But now I know!

Anyway, back from food dream land.

Flats: Ciao Bella

Shirt: Thrifted
Skirt: Forever 21
So this shirt is awesome.  It fits me really well, and it cost me like, $4.  Also , the tag is slightly hilarious.  It says in all caps "IT'S GAILORD" and next to it is this little guy who looks like a spy who is saying "MMMMM."  No indication about what kind of fabric this is, or any care instructions, but I am happy to know it's GAILORD!

Necklace: Wedding gift from Husby
It is a bunch of teeny flowers!  I love it.

Functional:  I'd say so!  This is one of the few button down shirts that I have that doesn't gape much.  4.8
Comfortable:  Yes!  The skirt's waistband is stretchy, the skirt is long enough.  The shirt fits, and is also stretchy in all of the right ways.  Yay stretchy!  I did have some static issues with the shirt, but nothing too bad.  I'll give it a 4.5.
Liked it: I was feeling colorful, comfy and happy all day long.  I was excited to finally wear my necklace again too, I don't wear it nearly enough.  4.8

Average score: 4.7

red and black and striped all over

Today, I am skipping scrimmage practice (and I don't even care!  I went to two practices totaling four freaking hours after work yesterday!  So there!) and maybe I feel a bit bad about it.  Also, it is about 70 degrees and sunny here in Denver and I LOVE it.  I took a lunchtime walk without a jacket and overall, today has been a pretty excellent work day, even if I'm super tired.

Let it be known that Ciela the cat obsessively smelled this cherry decoration for about a minute, and then made the kitty yuck face.  I don't know what she could be smelling, but this cardi is clean!

Shoes: Tsubo
Dress: TJ Maxx
...hi, Ciela!

Cardigan: From a consignment store for teenagers, originally from Forever 21
Check out the sweet unintentional bump in my hair!  Oh well.

Silver and Carnelian Ring: Target

This is what happens when I decide to play with the camera for too long...are you scared?!   What do you mean, "no"?!

Functional:  Yes!  All was covered, and if I wanted, I could sprint in this outfit.  4.8
Comfortable:  Yes!  No heels, perfect for the weather, stretchy dress...heck yeah.  5
Liked it:  For the most part.  I think I would have preferred this with heels, but the heels in question already gave me a blister this week.  Also, while it didn't look terrible, I am not so sure about the neckline differences between this dress and cardi.  4.5

Average score: 4.77

A Reason to Smile: GLITTER

This weekend, the Denver Roller Dolls had a bout night.  I still don't get to play publicly, but I'm getting close.  And I got to do the next best thing- help give glitter tattoos to small children (and drunk adults)!

I love just about anything that sparkles, and bouts are the perfect excuse to don all of the sparkle you can handle.  Check out my boutfit shoes-

Shoes: Converse One Star from Target.  Even better, they were on clearance for $11.  Woohoo!

I don't even have to TIE them!

The only thing better than my shoes?  My sweet scorpion glitter tattoo.  RESPECT.

Well, it is Monday

Oh Hello there, Monday!  Where did you come from?  I had a busy weekend, so today involved some catching up on chores I should have done already.   I made some kale chips, which are DELICIOUS, BTW, and went grocery shopping, and boiled some eggs, and now I'm ready to reeeelax.

I wore clothes today.

Necklace: self made
Cardigan: Forever 21

So I'm really happy that my hair is finally long enough to pull this off.  I have mad french braiding skills.  I did this without a mirror by myself in like, a minute and a half.  And it has lasted all day.  At least I have ONE talent!

Cami: Gap
Skirt: don't remember the brand, I got it at Ross
Spooky Kitty Guillermo: saved from Petsmart

shiny black shoes: sofft

Functional: Mostly.  I walk slower in these shoes, so I'll deduct for that. 4
Comfortable: It was a glorious day, so I was perfectly comfortable temperature wise.  This would have been perfect, but my shoes gave me a blister.  Lame! 3.5
Liked it:  Yes!  Felt mostly comfy and even somewhat glamorous. 4.6

Average score:  4.03

blurryish photos and Mataam Fez!

Denver Restaurant Week ends tonight, so we went out with the inlaws to this wonderful Moroccan restaurant called Mataam Fez.  The food was amazing, the belly dancer was super talented, the cook came out to talk to us, the server did tricks with the mint tea...I highly recommend it!

I've had this dress since high school.  And I'm not sure I've worn it since then.  Tonight, I remembered why I love this dress (and have been unable to donate it, despite my best efforts).

Still at home.  Dress: from high school
Cardigan: thrifted
Earrings: I won them at a jewelry party thrown by my cousin a couple years ago
Boots: Timberland

This drink was delicious- a combination of three different types of wine (I know that plum wine was involved...)

This had powdered sugar on top, and chicken on the inside, and I wanted to eat the whole dang thing.

I didn't wear this outfit all day, so I'm not going to bother to rate it.  But I was comfortable and I had a great dinner with some of my family.  Can't beat that!

OOOH and also, I wanted to share this- http://blogs.discovermagazine.com/badastronomy/2012/03/09/jaw-dropping-moon-mosaic/ .  Be sure that you click on the moon photo in the post, it is amazing!  My work desktop is now stylish with the help of the beautiful moon.

I would like to note that Greek food is amazing

Husby just called me a "crankypuss."  And we laughed heartily.

Back to the matter at hand.

I don't often wear this dress, so it was fun to bust it out for work followed by a fancy dinner.  I celebrated by putting on some sparkly green nail polish, and immediately ruining it.

It is the end of Denver's restaurant week, and we went to a lovely Greek place called Axios Estiatorio (I had to google how to actually spell that one) for cheap.  I am currently full of hummus and bread and baklava and this delicious pasta dish.  So content right now.

Dress: H&M
Scarf: Target
Boots: Timberland

I will most likely mention this in the future, but I LOVE THESE BOOTS.

Earrings: from Dillards
Can't see it in this picture, but the bottom of my chin is nice and bruised.  Scrimmage last night was INTENSE.
Functional: Covered the bits.  Was fine for work.  Was able to wear this at work, and out for dinner. 4.5
Comfortable: I can't help but feel like this dress is too short, and you can probably see my butt.  I know its not true, but...yeah.  Also, I should have worn tights.  I could see my breath.  Not bare legs weather.  Silly, silly me.  3
Liked it:  I liked the look, even though it was thrown together at the last minute this morning.  Not super exciting, but I liked it. 4.2

Average: 3.9

Smile! Truffles and earrings and derby, oh my!

This last week has had ups (really, really awesome ups!) and downs (nothing that catastrophic), and I need to remember that I always have reasons to smile.  Four of those current reasons-

1- Homemade whiskey truffles, coated in cocoa powder!  Easy and deeeelicious.

2- These earrings.  I love these earrings.  They really appeal to my inner geologist (since my outer geologist basically just makes maps all day...).  Whats even better is that I thrifted these for like, $2.

3- A wonderful, chilly glass of chardonnay to top off an evening that doesn't involve derby practice.
4- Sorry, no picture for this one.  But my biggest reason to smile this week is that I have finally been drafted to a team within my derby league!  The team uniform that I will hopefully have soon will be the best outfit I own.  THE. BEST.

Now its time to pick an outfit for tomorrow, continue consuming my wine, and play some video games!

Sunday, March 4, 2012

Little to report on the interesting outfit front around here, but I'm happy to say I didn't shop.  Instead of shopping, I made whiskey truffles, drank scotch with some friends (BRING ON THAT PEATY FLAVOR), and practiced some derby.  So it was a pretty good weekend.  So here is an outfit from last week (or maybe it was the week before?)...

The tights and shoes combo made me feel so...cute.  Sassy?  Something.

I will go with sassy.

Cardigan- TJ Maxx
Dress- Athleta
Tights- Hue

Earrings- I think they are from JC Penneys

Shoes- Target

Functional: covered all the bits.  Was fine for work.  I'll call it a 4.5
Comfortable: SUPER comfortable, I even stayed relatively warm. 4.8
Liked it:  This was a bit out of the ordinary for me, outfit wise.  The dress has a somewhat high neckline for me, and I don't think I wear much in the pastel realm.  BUT I really enjoyed it, from what I remember. 4.3

Overall Average: 4.53

How was your weekend?
